Cindy Crawford’s look alike daughter Kaia Gerber became the “it girl” of the New York Fashion Week this season. She also stopped shows like Chanel in Paris…

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the brutal murder of Gianni Versace in broad daylight in Miami Beach. This brought the late designer back into the public eye. His murder wil also be the subject of Ryan Murphy’s next American Crime Story, set to air on FX next year.

Donatella Versace chose to stage her Spring 2018 show at Milan’s Triennale Museum as a tribute to her brother Gianni’s inspirations and creations. She wanted to focus on his life, rather than his violent end.

For the first time since she took over the creative direction of the company, she turned to the archives and the key prints and pieces from the years 1991–95, the period of Gianni Versace’s most iconic collections. From each of these print motifs, Donatella Versace remade and reinterpreted the blouses, square-shouldered jackets, leggings, catsuits, corsets, trenches, mini sheaths, and maxi skirts. Not to mention high-waisted jeans, logo tees, fanny packs, and jeweled stiletto boots. The topmodels from the 1990’s Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Helena Christensen, walked the finale of the show to the chorus of George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90.”

Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber was also on the catwalk alongside her mother. The 16 year-old made her debut this season with many shows and the Versace Spring Summer 2018 show was only one of the shows she was noti- ced in. But the real stars here were the topmodels from the 90’s, one being her mother Cindy Crawford.

Kaia Gerber, on the other hand killed it on the Calvin Klein runway just. “I didn’t go to the show, but I saw it on video, and she was fantastic,” her father Rande Gerber said. “I know it’s something she really wants to do, and I always want to support that. But I also know she’s got a great role model.”

Mama Cindy Crawford, was on the front row of the Calvin Klein show with her 18 year-old son Presley for Kaia’s run- way debut at Raf Simons’s Spring Summer 2018 collection for Calvin Klein. “She’s 16, so she’s eligible to work now,” Crawford said. “She did a terrific job and seemed really at ease and comfortable. We’re really proud of her.”

Did one of the world’s most celebrated supermodels have any advice for her daughter? “I gave her the same advice I gave to my son when he got his first job working at a juice bar: Be on time, be polite and professional, do what’s asked of you, and don’t have your head in your phone,” Crawford said. 18-year-old Presley is also a model, appearing most recently in the music video for Madison Beer’s “Dead”. “But when it comes to the other stuff — how to be in front of a camera, how to express yourself and convey what’s unique about you… that’s not something I can teach her. It’s not something you can teach anybody. It has to come from within.”

“Younger models are always coming up to Cindy and saying, ‘I’ve looked up to you for your entire career, I admire you so much, you look so beautiful,’ and I always think it’s really nice for her to hear that,” Rande Gerber said. “But she also shows younger girls, Kaia included, of course, that you can be a successful model and also be a mom and be respon- sible. You can have both a real life and a real career. “

Kaia Gerber has made her way through all four Fashion Week cities New York, London, Milan, and Paris, shutting down every catwalk in her wake. Prior to this, Gerber was Cindy Crawford’s look-alike daughter to many. This season she became the It Girl of New York Fashion Week. And stop- ped shows like Chanel in Paris, too.
